BBC reporter Paul Ogden joined up with other footballing hopefuls as they auditioned for the forthcoming film The Damned United under the watchful eye of Brazilian Soccer Schools (BSS) found Simon Clifford. Simon, who has been appointed as the Football Advisor, has been putting the auditionees through their paces in a number of drills to see whether they are up to the challenge of portraying former-Leeds United favourites such as Peter Lorimer and Allan Clarke. The film, which is being jointly-funded by Sony Pictures Entertainment, BBC Films, Screen Yorkshire and Left Bank Pictures, is based on David Peace's award-winning novel of the same name and follows Brian Clough's fateful spell as Leeds United manager. Having choregraphed Bend It Like Beckham, There's Only One Jimmy Grimble and Kicking and Screaming, Simon was chosen as the person to ensure all the footballing scenes reflect the actual events.
On his role, Simon said: "It's a great project to be involved in and helps BSS to gain coverage pre and post-film. I have less time to mould those selected to take part into the people they will be portraying than I did when i taught Keira (Knightley) to play, but i'm very confident that it will be be a success. "Brian Clough is one of my all-time heroes and i'm a friend of David Peace so it will be an interesting watch from my perspective." To see the BBC News report from the auditions, please click here. |
