The International Confederation of Futebol de Salao's (ICFDS) Entry to Employment (E2E) scheme, designed to give young people the basic skills needed in employment, has been given an 'outstanding' rating by OFSTED.
The programme, run at the organisation's non-league football club, Garforth Town, sees school leavers aged between 16 and 18 join a youth training scheme, combining football training with learning such as computer and literacy skills.
It also offers those involved the chance to gain qualifications in a number of areas, and, running in conjunction with igen, the ICFDS programme has expanded to over 30 learners in 2009.
A prominent case study of the programme is that of Delroy Ferguson who, after leaving school at the age of 15, joined the E2E set-up at Garforth Town as one of its first learners. There, he trained for 20 hours a week on-the-field while completing a NVQ Level Sports Leadership Qualification alongside other skills, and he worked his way into the senior Garforth first-team.
Similarly, Justin Richards progressed through E2E before gaining the relevant qualifications to allow him to assist sessions at BSS, and he is now employed on a full-time basis as a coach in Leeds. The impressive OFSTED rating, the only of its kind in the field, is due in no small part fo Brett Renshaw and Duncan Williams, both employees of the ICFDS, who work full-time with the learners themselves. On the latest success, ICFDS founder Simon Clifford said: " The rating is absolutely brilliant, and just rewards for Duncan, Brett and everybody else involved with the programme. "The opportunity E2E gives young people leaving school who would perhaps otherwise lack direction is one that we have grasped with both hands, and we look forward to growing and developing our programme over the coming years." |
